The secret to a stress-free wedding day isn’t just good vendors—it’s a meticulously planned timeline. A great timeline acts as the conductor’s orchestra, ensuring everyone (from your makeup artist to your DJ) knows exactly where they need to be and when.

The Anatomy of a Perfect Wedding Day

Every wedding is unique, but this is the foundational timeline structure we recommend to ensure a smooth, joyful day:

☀️ Morning Prep (3-4 Hours Before Ceremony)

  • Hair & Makeup Arrival: Ensure artists arrive early. Build in 30 mins of buffer time.
  • Photographer Arrival: Detail shots (dress, rings, shoes) happen while you’re getting ready.
  • Breakfast/Lunch: Don’t forget to eat! Have food available for the wedding party.

💒 The Ceremony (1 Hour Block)

  • Guest Arrival: Usually 30 minutes before the start time.
  • Processional & Ceremony: Typically 20-45 minutes depending on traditions.
  • Recessional: The grand exit!

📸 Post-Ceremony (1-1.5 Hours)

  • Family Formals: Have a specific shot list ready to keep this moving.
  • Wedding Party Portraits: Take advantage of the golden hour light!
  • Cocktail Hour Overlap: Your guests enjoy drinks and apps while you take photos.

🥂 The Reception (4-5 Hours)

  • Grand Entrance: Introduce the new Mr. & Mrs.!
  • Dinner Service: Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for a seated dinner.
  • Speeches & Toasts: Usually best between dinner courses or right after.
  • First Dance & Parent Dances: Kicks off the open dancing.
  • Cake Cutting: Usually occurs 1-2 hours before the end of the reception.
  • Send-Off: Sparklers, vintage car, or a grand exit!
